Linear Density or Yarn Count

Linear Density is a number that indicates :

There are two system of yarn count :

  1. Direct system → Mass per unite length
  2. Indirect system → Length per unite mass

Definitions of different Linear Density

  1. Tex Count : Mass in grams of 1000 meter length of yarn.
    95 Tex Count = Mass of 1000m length of yarn is 95gm.

  2. Denier Count : Mass in grams of the 9000m length of yarn.
    95 Denier Count = Mass of 9000m length of yarn is 95gm

  3. Jute Count or Grist : Mass in pounds of 1 spyndle, length of 1 spyndle is 14400 yds, of yarn.
    95 Jute Count or Grist = Mass of 14400yds length of yarn is 95lbs.

  4. English Cotton Count : Number of hanks, each hank is 840yds, in one pound of yarn.
    95 English Cotton Count = Number of hanks in 1lb mass of yarn is 95 = Length of 1lb mass of yarn is 79,800 (95×840) yds.

  5. Metric Count : Length in kilometers of the 1 kilogram mass of yarn.
    95 Metric Count = Length of 1kg mass of yarn is 95km.

  6. Woollen Count : Number of skeins, each skein is 256yds, in one pound of yarn.
    95 Woollen Count = Number of skeins in 1lb mass of yarn is 95 = Length of 1lb mass of yarn is 24,320 (95×256) yds.

  7. Worsted Count : Number of hanks, each hank is 560yds, in one pound of yarn.
    95 Wrosted Count = Number of hanks in 1lb mass of yarn is 95 = Length of 1lb mass of yarn is 53,200 (95×560) yds.

  8. Linen Count : Number of leas, each lea is 300yds, in one pound of yarn.
    95 Linen Count = Number of leas in 1lb mass of yarn is 95 = Length of 1lb mass of yarn is 28,500 (95×300) yds.
